Commercial flop despite beautiful visualisation by Bapu

The music in this film came in for wide criticism. K.V.Mahadevan and Balu were accused of deviating from tradition in presenting Thyagaraja Krithis. It is an irony that the same duo was highly acclaimed for their work in the film Sankarabharanam which was a big blockbuster just a few months before this film was released. This criticism lead to some adverse publicity for the film. I was told that some music teachers even forbade their students from watching this film.
